AKA & Cassper Nyovest Lead SA Hip Hop Award Nominations!

Since inception, the SA Hip Hop Awards have always drawn controversy, from disputed and rejected awards, to not being recognized by mainstream artists. Somehow, the team behind the awards has weathered the storm and the team is now hosting the 6th edition of awarding the best in South African hip hop.

On Monday afternoon the SAHHA panel announced the nominations for this year’s award ceremony hosted at the Lyric Theater in Gold Reef City on 13th December, this year’s awards will be pre-recorded for broadcast on SABC 1. All entries were judged through a process that involved independent experts drawn from radio, TV, newspapers, Media and the recording industry

As expected, AKA and Cassper Nyovest are leading with the most nominations, AKA with 13 noms in total, one more than Cassper’s 12. The two go head to head with multiple nominations in at least 6 categories, namely; Song of the Year, Best Album, Best Collabo, Hustler of the Year, Best Video, and Most Valuable. Fittingly, the theme this year is Hip Hop Politics.

They both had great a year, with Cassper dropping the impressive Thuto and Kiernan dropping his hit laden collaborative effort with Anatii BCWYWF. Reebok & Ciroc also came through for the two, making Hustler of the Year and Most Valuable categories a fierce contest.

Hip Hop prides itself with constantly breaking new talent and this year is no different; Best New Comer is a tough choice between Rouge, Shane Eagle, Bigstar Johnson, Zoocci Coke Dope and J Molley. Rouge or Eagle stand a good chance of taking this one.

Hosted by comedian Nina Hastie, you can expect some of the best in local hip hop to grace the SAHHA stage on award night, while the show also attracts music industry personalities, up & coming rappers and socialites alike.

SABC 1 is a great choice for media partner for this type of event, looking at the SABC 1 demo, the award show will appeal to a wider audience that is more in line with the SAHHA brand.
